Week 41 of Pregnancy
You've made it past your due date, this is still totally normal! Many healthy pregnancies go into the 41st week, especially for first-time parents. Although you may be feeling impatient or anxious, know that your body and baby are continuing to prepare for labor. Your healthcare provider will begin monitoring more closely this week to ensure everything stays on track. Trust your body, stay relaxed, and lean on your support system, you’re nearly there.



Baby’s Size
Your baby is about the size of a bitter melon.
Baby’s Development at 41 weeks
Still Growing and Maturing
Your baby continues to gain weight and build fat stores, especially around their cheeks and shoulders. They may weigh over 8 pounds now.
Amniotic Fluid Changes
The amount of amniotic fluid may begin to decrease slightly, and your provider will monitor this to ensure baby’s safety.
More Alert and Responsive
Your baby is likely alert during awake periods and may react more noticeably to light, voices, and touch.
Skin Peeling
With the protective vernix mostly gone, your baby’s skin may become dry and start to peel, which is normal for post-term babies.

Baby’s low position may intensify pelvic aches, groin discomfort, or sciatic nerve pain.

You may feel consistent Braxton Hicks or early labor contractions as your body prepares more intensely.

Watch for signs of your water breaking—this could be a slow trickle or a noticeable gush.
Pregnancy Symptoms during Week 41

Between discomfort and anticipation, sleep may be hard to come by. Try short naps, body pillows, and guided meditations.

The wait and extra monitoring can lead to increased anxiety or frustration. You're not alone, many birthing parents feel this way.

Light walking, prenatal massage, warm baths, or gentle bouncing on a birth ball may ease tension and support labor readiness.

Make sure your partner or birth team is prepped and on standby, since labor could begin at any moment.
41 Weeks Pregnant Belly
Your belly is stretched to its max, and baby is likely fully engaged in your pelvis. You may notice sharper twinges or lower back discomfort as your body gets closer to labor. Your skin may feel itchy or tight, and movements might feel different, less punching, more rolling, due to space becoming limited. Keep monitoring those movements and speak up if you notice a big change.
